8. The temporary "polytunnel" type structure being constructed at Leeming Bar Yard to allow work to be done under cover during this winter

The Direct Works Team starting the infill on the W end of the present platform at Scruton by the SB. The rubble is coming from a waste heap west of the storage container. This phase 2 work is the initial short sect where the present platform will rise approx. 7 inches so that the phase 3 work - the 180 ft. wooden platform will be able to accommodate a 3 carriage length train (09/12/2015)

At the Railway Heritage Awards in London on 2nd December 2015, the Wensleydale Railway won the Railway Heritage Trust Conservation Award for the restoration of Scruton Station. The photo shows (left to right) Sir William McAlpine (Railway Heritage Trust), Lord Faulkner (National Heritage Railway Awards) and David Walker (Wensleydale Railway Trust) presenting the blue plaque at the awards ceremony (03/12/2015)

A temporary covered "polytunnel" type structure is being constructed in Leeming Bar yard.
This is being built because of the urgent need to do some welding and other work which cannot be done exposed to the winter weather.
It is hoped that this structure will be able to be relocated elsewhere on the railway once the proposed new shed is built. (23/12/2015)Click here to see higher resolution photo
