In preparation for the renewal and doubling of the width of Waterboard Lane UWC the Infrastructure team moved ballast there from the recent upgrade at Yafforth.
At the Waterboard Lane crossing, standing water was visible between the deck timbers and alongside both ends of the crossing so 2 x drainage channels were dug and a deep soak away allowed this standing water to run away. (04/11/2017)Click here to see higher resolution photo

In preparation for the renewal and doubling of the width of Waterboard Lane UWC the Infrastructure team went to Yafforth crossing and hand shovelled new ballast, left over from the recent Yafforth LX upgrade, onto 1 double & 1 single rail trolley. They then pushed them all the way uphill from 1m 48 chains to Waterboard Lane at 2m 39chains and dropped it just west of the crossing This was repeated and a second load was pushed up and dropped off using double trolley only. We estimated approx 3 tonnes of ballast was moved up. (04/11/2017)

The plan was over two days (29 & 30 of November) to unload 400 concrete sleepers, and stack near the line at Leyburn for use in the new year near Harnby. (We also unloaded 20 wooden sleepers at Leeming Bar) All was going well on the first day, with just 3 more lifts and then we would be finished for first day. Unfortunately we then heard a very large bang! The cause was a piece of tyre had come out! Leaving a hole in the middle of the tyre.
Luckily for us the ATS guy was on site and was able to repaire it. This took about 2 hours as he had to go off site to get the parts.
Day two weather changes from rain the previous day, to frozen and snowing later on. Everything went well and the job finished just before two o'clock. (29/11/2017)Click here to see higher resolution photo
