Native Bluebells in profusion west of Finghall where the vegetation team are working. Wild flowers are everywhere and the volunteers take care not to step on them. English bluebells have curly tops, narrower leaves, a deeper blue and a scent, compared to their Spanish cousins (23/04/2025)

Throughout April the veg team worked on the huge job of clearing thorn, elder and bramble from the southern embankment west of Finghall. Here a train passes through a cleared area and the vegetation behind the fence shows the height and nature of the undergrowth removed. (09/04/2025)

A week on and members of the vegetation team retreat to a place of safety as another train enters the work area. In this image looking east towards Finghall some idea of the scale of work and progress so far can be envisaged. (16/04/2025)

Another week later and the veg team are still at it but the job is almost complete and the embankment to the left has levelled out towards Finghall making the job much easier. The LX marker board (right) marked the finish point but the team did in fact go a little further. (23/04/2025)

This image (looking east with Finghall out of sight round the curve) captures the scale of the job for the veg team volunteers. A fortnight later the vegetation on both sides will have disappeared, allowing light to dry the track and passengers to obtain better views. (09/04/2025)

An afterwards picture showing vegetation cleared on both sides. Over the last few weeks the volunteers have cleared just over a tenth of a mile of high undergrowth from fence to cess, allowing track to dry and enabling later ditch drainage digging to be begun unimpeded. (23/04/2025)

Having finally completed clearance of the southern embankment the veg team had some time available to remove a little of the vegetation on the opposite side uncovering lovely views across Wensleydale. No doubt passengers will enjoy this new glimpse of the dale. (23/04/2025)

New views across Wensleydale! This vista had been hidden for years until opened up by the vegetation volunteers west of Finghall. It would have been good to have had more time available to open up more but it was nice to hollow out the area we did in the time at hand. (23/04/2025)

Cleared as far as the eye can see and the camera can capture, the newly excavated embankment west of Finghall stretches out of sight in to the distance. Great satisfaction was had from finishing this job but at a cost of many pricked fingers and painfully embedded thorns. (23/04/2025)
