Guards are an essential part of the safe operation of our trains and railway. We are very pleased to announce that David Hanney, from South Shields, has qualified as a guard on our class 142 and class 143 diesel multiple units.
David has been volunteering with us since late 2023. In addition to being a guard, he is already a crossing keeper, traveling ticket inspector and a platform marshal at our railway. Congratulations and very well done, David! (18/06/2025)

Restoration of a lever frame at Scruton - Unfortunately after starting to assemble the lever frame we discovered that the wooden support beam that we didn't replace, as we thought it still in good condition was not. It had significant rot, with a large hole in the side of the beam. We therefore took the decision to remove the lever frame and replace the support beam. (03/06/2025)
