February 2026
Photographs
February has been a busy month for the various maintenance, vegetation and infrastructure teams. On this page:-
1. An old photo of Hertford East signal box, now re-erected at Constable Burton.
2. Loco 47714 at Leeming Bar.
3. Bedale station platform is about to be tarmacked.
4. Track from the former Eggborough power station arriving at Leeming Bar.
5. Refurbishment/replacement of bogies for Mk2 coaches.
6. More work on the 0-6-0 steam tank loco.
7. Pacer unit 142060 undergoing refurbishment.
8. The railway has recently acquired a Lomac wagon with an atlas crane.
9. The Wickham trolley is being prepared for display.
10. The Sentinel Diesel loco is undergoing restoration work.
11. The Direct Works team preparing a base for a shed at Finghall.
12. The Infrastructure team ballasting the track over the restored Stoop House bridge.
13. The Infrastucture team carrying out drainage work.
14. The Fencing Team replacing fencing and gates.
15. The Vegetation Team at work.
The track from the former Eggborough power station is being used to support our return to Redmire plans as well as for on-going track maintenance. Whilst we are getting the track free, we have to pay our specialist rail contractor - Lampitt Rail Services - for the costs in getting it to the railway. Please help us to achieve our aims by donating to our appeal - https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/securingourfuture

It has been decided that the Wickham trolley will not be used for work purposes due to the difficulty in making it compliant - especially the brakes. It will instead be exhibited in the original Wickham shed at Scruton. This will make it a very rare feature - A Wickham trolley in an original Whickham shed. Here the rear seat back has now been replaced with an original and the bench been replaced with a matching piece. (24/02/2026)

An image showing the extent of brash to be collected and disposed of. Unlike tree branches and logs (which are usually straightforward to deal with), brash is horrible to handle, prickly and awkward and if you're unlucky, it can snap and flick in to your face. (18/02/2026)

During the last week of February the veg team were at Constable Burton where the job was to remove some trees from the north embankment. In high winds the flexing of trees can damage embankments creating cracks and instability so this is something to be mindful of. (25/02/2026)
