Restoration of a Works Train Mess Van
To go along with the railway crane that is currently undergoing restoration, a mess van is required for the railway personnel who work the crane. An old Permanent Way Dept. Mess Van from Doncaster is being restored to carry out this function.
This van is in a very poor state and will require a thorough restoration.

Note at the extreme left, the metal 'lock-out'panel sticking out from the van. This has small windows in it to allow a view forwards and backwards along the train with having to stick your head out of a window - much safer.
The one on the other side is missing, and some workers are in the process of removing it so that a replica can be made. (30/04/2024)Click here to see higher resolution photo
