Demolition of existing chimney stack at Bedale Signal Box. The brickwork was still loose at this level and further bricks had to be removed to below the roofline. Almost all the original bricks were re-used. (14/02/2011)

As part of the Bedale Signal Box restoration in 2011 we needed to get the wooden sash windows to slide properly again after many years of neglect and overpainting. The brass rollers were badly worn and I volunteered to overhaul the set. Once the rivets were extracted the degree of wear became apparent. (24/11/2011)

As part of the Bedale Signal Box restoration in 2011 we needed to get the wooden sash windows to slide properly again after many years of neglect and overpainting. Back home with the Unimat lathe I bored out the sash window brass rollers to a suitable size to accept a steel inner bush. This would remove the problem of brass wearing against the steel rivet. Some copper nails have recently been found. They were originally recovered from Bedale Signal Box roof when it replaced by the Direct Works Team in 2011 (They held the slates in place). This one has 'TYNE' on it instead of N.E.R. Were they made for the NER by a company located on the river Tyne? (04/09/2022)
